After Manchester United’s win at the Etihad yesterday, Patrice Evra has hailed his team mates Wayne Rooney and Robin Van Persie for their contributions to the victory.

Rooney scored a brace whilst Robin Van Persie scored a last minute winner as United over came City, opening a 6 point gap at the top of the table.

Evra feels Van Persie is working not only for himself but the team in an attempt to wrestle the title away from Roberto Mancini’s side, whilst Rooney is proving his importance after coming in for some criticism at the start of the season.

Speaking to Talksport, yesterday’s captain said:

“Robin is perfect for Manchester United.

“When he scored the hat-trick at Southampton he also missed a penalty.

“The first thing he said when he came back to the dressing room was that he was really sorry for missing the penalty. That shows the hunger, humility and personality he has to win trophies.

“He is not just scoring for himself. He really wants the team to win something.”

Rooney got his seventh goal of the season yesterday and Evra feels he continues to show his importance to the side:

“A lot of people criticised Wayne at the beginning of the season, asking why he didn’t score so many goals.

“Last week he scored two goals. (Sunday) he got two again. He is a really important player for us.”
