Robin Van Persie scored the winner against Man City at the EtihadSir Alex Ferguson has hailed the impact Robin Van Persie has made on his side since signing from Arsenal in the summer, likening it to the arrival of Eric Cantona.

Van Persie has scored 15 times this season, but has also created a number of goals for his team mates too. The likes of Rooney and Hernandez are also chipping in with goals as United press forward and get ready to mount their customary second half of the season charge to the title.

Speaking with Yahoo Sport prior to the Sunderland game, when asked if Van Persie, like Cantona, is making those around him raise their game Sir Alex agreed and claimed the Dutch striker had definitely had an impact on United’s attacking play:

“I think it is happening, the attacking aspect of our game has definitely improved and of course he has weighed in with 14 goals so far.

“Chicharito has got nine goals, Rooney has seven I think and we have scored around 43 goals as team, which is quite a high amount for this time of year.”
