Reading manager Brian McDermott has dismissed talk of Danny Welbeck heading to the Madejski Stadium, claiming Sir Alex Ferguson wouldn’t let the starlet leave Old Trafford.
Reading are in the hunt for an established name to aid their efforts to maintain their Premier League status and Welbeck has found playing time hard to come by with the introduction of Robin Van Persie to the squad and the improved form of Javier Hernandez.
With just a single goal to his name this season, Welbeck has struggled and earlier this week was linked with a temporary move to Reading but McDermott has refuted these claims:
“I can’t see Sir Alex Ferguson sending Danny out to any club.
“I don’t know where this has came from, it’s got nothing to do with me.
“Welbeck’s a great player and I’m sure Sir Alex Ferguson thinks he’s a great player too.
“Everyone in the country thinks that.”
