Wilfried Zaha

Earlier this week David Moyes said that Wilfried Zaha needed to know the level of competition he faced to get into the Manchester United team.

A £12M signing from Crystal Palace, Zaha’s lack of first team opportunities has perplexed United fans who were excited by his showings during pre season. A number of reasons as to why the 20 year old has yet to feature in Moyes’ plans have circulated with some seeming plausible, whilst others verge on outlandish. Speaking of the youngster, Moyes said:

“Wilf has not appeared. We have not felt we have had the opportunity. I want Wilf to get used to what happens here. The competition is hard. “It is just impossible to get all these players a game at the one time. You can only ever play eleven. “It is important Wilf gets to see the level of the training here, the level of the players and the quality they have got. He is getting better which we are pleased about.”

Well if his showing against Lithuania is anything to go by, Zaha is ready to push his first team rivals. Zaha impressed for Gareth Southgate’s side and whilst a bust up with Ravel Morrison may have stolen the headlines, his two assists were just part of a sparkling attacking display.

With both Ashley Young and Antonio Valencia struggling for form, a place in the first team is there for the taking. Moyes has stated that the youngster is improving, hopefully his showing for England will strengthen his case for a place in Moyes’s team.
