Two Wayne Rooney penalties and a header from Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez cancelled out a Jonny Evans own goal as well as efforts from Juan Mata and David Luiz.

Sir Alex Ferguson commended his players after the comeback but thinks the assistant referee could have done better with the decisions he made.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Sir Alex stated:

‘’It’s two points dropped because we played well, other than the ten minutes after half-time. It’s not easy getting back from 3-0 down. That’s a massive effort from my players.”

Asked about Chelsea new boy Gary Cahill’s challenge on Danny Welbeck, the Scot continued:

‘’It was a sending off. The linesman has given two penalty kicks against us at Old Trafford in the last two years, one against Arsenal and one against Liverpool from 45 yards away but can’t see that? I don’t blame Howard Webb, I blame the assistant.

‘’There was a pull on Ashley Young in front of the linesman again and he doesn’t give it. Yet he gives them at Old Trafford. I don’t understand it. I don’t know where they get them from.

‘’His jersey is pulled. Was he diving? If it’s a pull on the shirt he’s not diving obviously. The two penalties in the second half was justified but we could have had four.”

Ferguson was also grateful for Javier Hernandez’s leveller and admitted he should have started the Mexican international:

‘’To be honest I should have played Chicharito from the start. When he came on, he kept them on their toes, his movement, his positional play. Danny is an excellent player and will be a top player but Chicharito when he came on, it was a different game.”

Prior to joining us Rio Ferdinand had somewhat of a negative reputation, but as he has matured at the club you have seen the growth in him not only as player, but as a person.

There have been a number of ups and downs in Ferdinand’s time here but the past few years have arguably been his hardest.

Injuries have begun to take their toll on field meaning his place has come under fire, whilst things have hardly been any better on the international front.

Made captain by Fabio Capello in 2010, the defender missed the World Cup having picked up an injury just weeks before the competition kicked off. Then the following March he was stripped of the captaincy as John Terry was reinstated as leader of the national team.

Ferdinand’s brother Anton is currently embroiled in a race storm after John Terry appeared to call him a ‘f*cking black c*nt’, and with United taking on Chelsea this weekend all the talk in the build up to the game centered on Ferdinand and Terry going head to head and if they would shake hands before the game commenced.

Ferdinand appeared on BBC’s Football Focus today to discuss the happenings in his life at the moment and you can’t help but feel impressed that a man associated with our club acquitted him self so well.

Some had expected/hoped Ferdinand to go on to the show all guns blazing and to have a go at Terry but he was dignified in his responses to Dan Walker and his whole demeanour just echoed how mature and responsible a man he has become.

“Anton is my little brother. We have grown up together and I have looked after him when we were kids.

“If something is going to affect him and hurt him, I am always there as a shoulder to lean on.

“In moments like this, when things are so public and you can’t really say anything, it can be frustrating.

“For my family, yes, it has been tough. At the end of the day, my brother has not brought any accusations to anyone. He is not the accused.

“But he has had to sit there and take abuse from some small-minded people, which has been very disappointing.

“I hope people see what effect that has, not just on the actual person but the people around them as well, and think before they speak.”

Ferdinand, quite unfairly, has come in for some stick for his interaction with fans as well as the media and it has lead to a clearly incorrect labelling of him as unintelligent but you would hope that this notion is dispelled with his appearance today.

Ferdinand, like the club during the whole Evra/Suarez saga, decided not to fan the flames but instead spoke sincerely on the effect the whole episode has had on his brother as well as his family.

With Anton being sent a bullet prior to QPR’s meeting with Chelsea in the FA Cup last week, you can imagine that the whole situation will have been particularly stressful and the worst thing is it isn’t over yet with Terry set to go on trial in July.

Ferdinand should be applauded for how he is dealing with this situation and even if he didn’t tear into Terry the way many of us had hoped I, like many of you, are extremely proud and happy to associate such a man with Manchester United.

The striker is highly thought of at Old Trafford, and having been an integral part of the team that won the FAYC last season, scoring twice in the 2nd leg of the finals, Keane earned a call up to England’s u21 team.

His continued good form at reserve level saw him make his debut against Blackburn in December and was again included in the team that faced Stoke on Tuesday.

Having had a taste of first team football, Keane now can’t wait for more. Speaking to the club’s official website he said:

“Coming up from the Academy, it’s what we aspire to do for years.

“It’s always a dream of ours to do that and getting to do it was really special. It’s been good in training. Gradually, I’ve been brought into it quite a lot recently and the standard is obviously very high. There’s a good tempo and all the lads helped us settle in really well. It’s been really enjoyable.

“The aim is to keep working hard in training, keep developing in Reserves games and score as many goals as I can. Hopefully, I’ll get another chance in the first team, do as well as I can and keep pushing on from there.”

Fortune, who frequents Carrington, has seen first hand the work Valencia has put in to over come injury and feels since returning this season, the Ecuadorian winger has more than proved himself a valuable asset to United’s title charge.

Whilst comparisons have been made between Valencia and former wing wizard Andrei Kanchelskis, Fortune has gone left field and likened him to another current United hero:

“Antonio has been unbelievable since he came back.

“He has been the man of the match for United in the last three matches and is getting his rewards for all the work he has done to get fit.

“But the thing about Antonio is that he is so quiet. He is a bit like Paul Scholes in that respect; comes in, trains and goes home, back to the quiet life.

“Even when he scores, he doesn’t celebrate. But he does win games, that is why the boss likes him so much.”

There has been a huge buzz about Pogba since he signed for United in 2009 and even more so in light of news that his contract is running out, but as with every player fans are more interested in what he does on field.

He looked a lot more calm and confident against Stoke than he did in his previous Carling Cup appearances and it told in his performance.

Whilst he remains one of football’s hottest prospects, at just 18 he still has a lot of developing to do but outings like the one of Tuesday will undoubtedly help bring him along.

Following his encouraging showing, Sir Alex again spoke on his contract situation and as United fans you hope it can be resolved as soon as possible.

The Swiss defender was Manchester United’s only deadline day signing and having expressed his delight at the chance to wear the red shirt of United, his agent Adam Bouskouchi has today explained why his client was eager to leave City and join United.

Having lead his country to u17 World Cup in 2009, Veseli had hoped to get a chance this season after taking part in City’s tour of North America last summer.

But the chance never came so rather than stagnate at the Etihad, Veseli felt a move to United would be a better option with Sir Alex’s history of breaking young talent.

“These days, Manchester City are chasing titles and major trophies.

“It is difficult for them to have faith in youth because they obviously feel experience is the best way for them to get where they want to go.

“But that attitude didn’t help Freddie, who just felt like he wasn’t progressing.

“On that pre-season tour, both Roberto Mancini and – director of football – Brian Marwood said how well he had done. But since then, nothing.”

But that’s where United stepped in.

All it took was a word with Sir Alex to convince Veseli that United was the right place to be, and he was more than happy to join up with Warren Joyce’s reserve team.

“Freddie spoke with several clubs, here and abroad.

“But he wants to be a top player in England and when Sir Alex spoke to him, it made such an impression.

“He is a difficult man to say no to and his track record was enough for Freddie to feel he was making the right choice to join United.”
