Last night news broke that the ‘Red Knights’ lead by Keith Harris were preparing a £1bn bid to rescue the club from the Glazers but any hope was quickly quashed when the Glazers released a statement claiming the club was not for sale.

Ill feeling towards the Glazers is at an all time high and the large numbers of people joining the Manchester United Supporters’ Trust (MUST) as well as getting behind the Green & Gold campaign are a testament to how unhappy supporters are at their mismanagement.

So why do they stick around where they are not wanted?

Avram, Bryan and Kevin Glazer all attended the Carling Cup final this past Sunday and will have experienced first hand the ‘Love United, Hate Glazers’ chants and seen the Green & Gold protest in full effect yet they remain for one over riding reason, greed.

Despite being offered £1bn pounds, way above the £810m they bought the club for (of which they actually paid just £272m), they hang on because they know in the long run they can make more than the profit the Red Knights’ deal offers.

Keith Harris, a central figure in the proposed take over, has been vocal in his displeasure at how the Glazers are treating the club and it’s clear for all to see. The Glazers have used the club as their own personal bank borrowing from it as they please. In December 2008, 6 of Glazer’s children each ‘borrowed’ £1.66m from the club but when asked on these matters he remains silent.

The club was today announced as the third most fruitful in the world so why would he just let this cash cow go? Realistically they won’t but they have done enough damage as fans we can just hope they do the right thing, take the £1bn and walk away as they clearly don’t care an iota about the club.
