Today is a momentous day in United history, we face AC Milan in the first knock out stage of the Champions League and David Beckham makes his long awaited return to Old Trafford.

But enough with the small stuff!

Today is the eve of the return of the curly haired one, Owen Hargreaves. Having been out of the first team with a series of knee problems since September 2008, Hargreaves return, if successful can’t come a moment too soon.

Speaking last week Sir Alex said,

“Owen Hargreaves has shown for the first time that he is almost ready to play. He has been training with the first-team, which has been good to see and is pencilled in for a game with the reserves on Thursday.”

People have already been touting him for a place in England’s World Cup squad but he will need to walk before he can run and his first steps will com on Thursday as he has been pencilled in for a reserve appearance against ‘Citeh’ and all eyes will be on Moss Lane to see if Hargreaves can come through his first game of the season unscathed.

He has been removed from United’s European squad but he can still have an impact on the league especially with United having a less than favourable title run. He provides extra bite to any team and his versatility, being able to operate at the back and on the wing as well as in the centre of the park, will also come in handy.

Of course all this will depend on his ability to stay fit but if he can, his return will be like a new signing mid way through the season and could possible provide a boost to the team that is need around this time in a title race.
