So the draw for the Champions League quarter and semifinals has been somewhat kind to us. We face Bayern Munich in the quarters and if we win that then either Lyon or Bordeaux in the semis.

We have been drawn away first against Bayern so like against AC Milan we have a chance to build up a head start before the second leg at Old Trafford as we have won 3 of 4 ties that we have been drawn away in the first leg.

We last played Bayern in the Audi Cup at the start of the season losing on a penalty shootout but this is competitive competition and a completely different kettle of fish. It will also provide Bayern with a chance to gain a measure of revenge following our emphatic win in the ’99 Champions League final.

If we can come through that game unscathed then we will face either Lyon or Bordeaux both very winable games.

To say I’m optimistic of making the final for a 3rd consecutive year is an understatement but we will still have to guard against complacency as there are no easy ties in this stage of the Champions League.
