Having played his first game in 18 months in last week’s reserve game against Burnley, it appears that Owen Hargreaves is ready to step up his comeback.

Sir Alex Ferguson believes the midfield enforcer is nearing a return to first team action thus instead of taking part in tonight’s reserve match against Burnley he will become more involved with the first team. Speaking this morning Sir Alex said:

“Owen won’t play for the Reserves tonight, he’s going to be training with the first team and we’ll see where that takes him. We’re keen to get him back involved because he’s an experienced player and will be a valuable addition for us in the run-in, when having a strong, fit squad is vital.”

This comes after this morning’s papers reported that Hargreaves himself claimed he won’t ever be able to play pain free again and still feels pain in his knees following surgery to cure tendinitis.

Ben Hibbs feels Hargreaves could even be included in Saturday’s match squad against Bolton although he doubts he will see any time on field.
