The polls have opened for this year’s player of the season award. The 23 players listed including last years winner Nemanja Vidic, had all started 10 or more games by the 15th March and there are some very strong candidates.

The obvious choice would be Wayne Rooney. He is having a hell of a season having currently scored 33 goals. His winner against Villa in the Carling Cup final as well as his performances against Hull and AC Milan make the Liverpudlian the favourite.

But United legend Denis Irwin begs to differ and feels Patrice Evra should get the nod for the award. The French left back has been the only constant in an ever changing back line and Irwin feels that he is deserving of as much praise as Rooney.

With Park Ji Sung and Darren Fletcher’s constant energy and big performance as well as Antonio Valencia stepping into the void left by Ronaldo and acquitting himself well, it will be very close but ultimately the decision lays in the hands of us the fans.

Well its a tough call obviously. Patrice Evra is an amazing player and brings so much to the game, his defending is top notch and he attacks the game well. Antonio Valencia is quickly becoming a fantastic substitute for Cristiano Ronaldo on the wing, with the presision of his crosses being superb. Nani has finally found his form and has become an important part of the United midfield. Darren Fletcher has so much energy in the games, his work-rate is exseptional and he creats amazing chances. Ji-Sung Park is also another player full of energy. He has played well these last few games and his goal against Liverpool was just beyond. Nemanja Vidic has had a good season and although being doged with injury and then illness has come back into the game as if he has never been away. His partnership with Rio Ferdinand has got to be one of the best in Europe. I feel Michael Carrick is also a suitable candidate for this award. He works inccredibly hard and is a player who United should give much credit too. Both he and Darren Fletcher found themselves having to pull back into defence when United had their injury crisis and they both managed very well. And of course, last but definatly not least, Wayne Rooney. He’s not just a footballer, he’s an artist. He’s a spectacular player and he’s had a amazing season and long may it continue. Love him xx
