Following a week of intense speculation regarding his fitness, Sir Alex has put our minds at ease by dispelling any rumours that Wayne Rooney is playing through the pain barrier and carrying a knee injury.

It had been reported that Rooney left Old Trafford limping following the 2-1 victory over Liverpool on Sunday and certain papers even claimed he would be rested for this weekend’s game against Bolton to give his knee time to heal but speaking to the official United website Sir Alex curtly said,

“Wayne is fit and there’s nothing wrong with his knee.”

Rooney has been in fine form this season and has currently scored 33 goals, so to lose him would be quite a blow. With games against Bayern Munich and Chelsea coming up we will need to have our best players fit and firing so Fergie’s words will come as good news.

He also added that both Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes were ready to help with our title charge,

“Scholes is okay again after an ankle knock and Ryan is a further week on with his training. Whether I start him or not is another matter. But his and Scholes’ experience is invaluable at this time of year.”
