More paper speculation this morning and aside from Berbatov leaving and a mass clearout at Old Trafford one story that has been reoccuring quite frequently has caught my eye.

Our midfield is top notch. Darren Fletcher, Park Ji Sung, Nani and Valencia are all quality players. Giggs and Scholes have the quality and experience to still merit a place in the team despite their age whilst the likes of Anderson, Gabriel Obertan and Darron Gibson will all reach the required level to perform for United week in week out very soon but one thing we have truly missed this season is a world class star name in the middle of the park.

Giggs and Scholes are top players, only a blind person would disagree, and although they are still able to perform at a high level, they are not at their peaks. We have struggled this season at times in that department and although Berbatov has got a fair bit of stick for his recent performances some of this cane be put down to the fact that the service to him hasn’t been marvelous. But that’s where David Silva steps in.

Amidst all the talk of empty transfer kittys and debt, if we can only bring in one more player and it’s a toss up between him and Benzema I’d take Silva in a heartbeat. Wayne Rooney needs someone to share the striking load with but we currently have 7 strikers and having brought in Javier Hernandez, Perhaps he should get a chance before we determine we need to bring in another forward.

Silva is still young, technically sound with an excellent eye for a pass and the ability to pull the pass off. He can play out wide but also in a more central role like an attacking midfielder or off the striker and chips in with a fair share of goals and assists. He is inventive and would be able to provide the spark from midfield we have missed at times due to the fact he can play as either play maker or winger.

A good purchase in both the long and short term, it would be naive to say Silva would be the solution to all our problems but as it stands he is something we sorely miss at the moment. Other names such as Ozil, Jovetic and Gourcuff have been mentioned but they seem to be fleeting mentions pulled up to sell papers whilst the Silva deal seems to have more substance.

Valencia are not in the best financial shape and are looking to ease their money problems ahead of a move to a new stadium, if Silva is available I would hope we move for him.

Definitely one of a few players I would like to see come to the club.

Park a quality player? I think not!!

Nani is sometimes but we don’t know if he can really reach the consistent quality we need.

Major question marks still hang over Anderson, Gibson and Obertan.

In short, we need major investment here!

His obvious quality apart, the fact that he can play left wing and creative mid, i hope we are not going to miss out on this one! We already did with Sneijder!

dear god i hope he goes nowhere near man utd or indeed premier league if headlines like “silva lining” is what we have to be subjected to in the future.

@Tunnelboy: I think Park is a quality player but in spurts at his best he adds to the team its just that this isn’t as often as it could/should be.

@elvido: Missing out on Sneijder hurts more and more as the season progresses. I’m not sure if we were ever properly in for him but you just wonder why not?

@okkhmvorus: I thought it was a rather fetching title. Next time I’ll be sure to consult with you before I title anything!
