Well the latest from the papers today is that we will send Kiko Macheda on loan to Palermo in order to secure the services of Danish defender Simon Kjaer.

As we saw this season with the injuries we picked up to our back line we could do with some reinforcements and we could do a lot worse than Kjaer.

Kjaer is an integral part of Palermo’s defence and his performances have seen him attract attention from a number of Italian and European clubs. Palermo do not wish to sell the defender and as they sit in fourth may be able to hold onto him if they can secure Champions League football.

A natural athlete, tall and strong. He is well built and often puts his size to use with tough tackles and great aerial command. What is impressive is his positional awareness and that at such a young age he is already a natural leader. He isn’t exactly fast and technically he can be improved but at 21 he has years to learn and who better than the likes of Ferdinand to learn from?

Getting Kjaer in would be great but the bonus would be Macheda going out on loan and getting some valuable experience.

The likes of Cleverley, James and until he got injured Welbeck have all benefited from going out on loan this season whilst Beckham and Jonny Evans are two players who have gone on to have careers at United after spells out on loan.

Macheda is a player of obvious talent and Sir Alex Ferguson clearly rates him very highly saying,

“Macheda is top drawer, a hero in the making, just as Cristiano was,”

High praise for an 18 year old.

This season  injury has hampered his progress but if he goes away to Palermo he can develop with more playing time and also playing in Serie A will develop him as a striker as it is a completely different style to the Premier League.

Of course Sir Alex could decide that Macheda is ready for a more prominent role next season but if he doesn’t then a loan move could be the next best thing.

He has shown flashes of talent in the games he has been used this season if he was to get a more games under his belt consecutively I just feel he will flourish and Palermo could be the place to that.
