In honour of the ginger prince’s new one year contract extension I compiled a list of my favourite Scholes goals. At his peak, Scholes bridged the gap between midfield and striker chipping in with his fair share of goals including those important late runs into the box.

His technique when striking the ball is a different class and is part of the reason why in 639 appearances Scholes has scored 148 goals.

So in honour of his new contract I have compiled my list of his top goals for United, some are there for importance others for quality but all are deserving.

5. vs Middlesbrough (April 2000). A thunderbolt that probably would still be going if not for the net

4. vs Bradford (March 2000). Just over a month later Scholes again light up the pitch with a thunderous volley directly from a David Beckham corner.

3. vs Panathinaikos (November 2000). United played keep ball, stringing together 32 passes before Scholes delicately chipped the ball over the stranded Panathinaikos keeper.

2. vs Aston Villa (Dec 2006). Scholes again showed why he is considered as one of the finest strikers of a ball with a stunning vintage goal, a thunderous volley from a cleared corner.

and finally although this goal may not have been as spectacular as some on the list, its importance ranks far beyond all. In 1999 Paul Scholes was booked in the CL semi final second leg against Juventus and as a result missed the Champions League final, so it was only fitting the next time United to the final, it would be Scholes who got them there with this wonderful strike against Barcelona

vs Barcelona (April 2008)

His goal output may have decreased as he has got older but one thing that remains the same is the absolute quality of the legend that is Paul Scholes and here is hoping that he carries on to impress in the coming year.
