United players that are set to shine in South Africa

ENGLAND

Wayne Rooney – The United talisman who had his best season in front of goal is England’s star man. Our nation’s hopes arguably lie with the form and fitness of Wayne Rooney. If he stays fit, (and keeps his anger under control) England will have a great chance of progressing far in the tournament.

Michael Carrick – Carrick is more than likely set to be used as cover for Gareth Barry. He didn’t have the best of seasons in a United shirt, but will hope to get enough chances to prove to Capello that he can do a job if called upon.

SERBIA

Nemanja Vidic – United’s no nonsense defender is Serbia’s rock at the back. He will skipper his national side and Serbia who are a very well organised team will no doubt challenge Germany for group winner. With talented individuals like Milos Krasic and Dejan Stankovic, Vidic’s Serbia are in some people’s eyes the dark horses of the competition.

Zoran Tosic – The tricky winger is currently enjoying life on loan at German side FC Koln. Despite being out of favour at Old Trafford, Tosic tends to perform for Serbia and his pace and trickery on the wings could prove vital.

SOUTH KOREA

Ji Sung Park – Park is the South Korean captain and is highly respected in his home country. He often plays on the right side of midfield for his national side, however he’s given the opportunity to get forward regularly and help the forwards as he so often does for United. Not a lot is expected from Korea so Park and the rest of the team can go to South Africa and possibly spring a few surprises.

FRANCE

Patrice Evra – Although France aren’t the team they were, they still possess some world class players and Evra is one of them. Now captain of the national side, Evra will have an opportunity to stake his claim as the world’s best left back.

MEXICO

Javier Hernandez – United’s exciting new signing will be making his first appearance in a major international competition. Since being called up by manager Javier Aguirre, he has had a sparkling start to his international career scoring 7 goals in 12 games. Mexico may find it tough in Group A alongside the likes of France and Uruguay. However, I think ‘Chicharito’ could be one to watch out for in the next couple of weeks.

Rio Ferdinand and Nani were also set to feature, but had to withdraw due to knee ligament damage and a broken collarbone respectively.

Let’s hope all of the United players can shine in South Africa and have a successful tournament but more importantly return to United injury free and ready for next season.
