Paper talk: Rooney supports, Giggs questions & Vida’s easy choice

Wayne Rooney has thrown his support behind the home grown quota that comes into effect this season. Speaking after yesterday’s 7-1 thrashing of an Airtricity Ireland select XI, Rooney had this to say:

“As an academy graduate myself I like to see young players coming through because I think they’re vital for the future of England and the Premier League.”

The quota seems a good idea to me, we have some good youngsters coming through and this could see more of them make it to the first team.

Ryan Giggs has questioned Man City’s credentials as title challengers following their big money spending. City have spent the most of all Premier League teams this summer in an attempt to finally crack the Top 4 but Giggs isn’t impressed.

To be frank, neither am I.

Nemanja Vidic has reaffirmed that he never intended on leaving Old Trafford. The Serbian defender has agreed terms on a new contract amidst rumours he was set to leave the club for Real Madrid but after last nights game he confirmed his stance saying,

“I don’t know why people think it was a difficult decision. I always said I am happy here,”

It appears that the Tom Cleverley saga has taken another turn as instead of Newcastle and Bolton the midfielder will join Wigan instead.

Rumours linking Michael Owen with a move to Bristol…nonsense! Started on a fans forum a couple days ago so don’t read too much into it and by the way that was some goal last night!
