The impact of Bebe’s arrival at Old Trafford
Initially reported as a forward, it is now being said Bebe can play in a number of offensive positions like secondary striker, winger etc. Having seen a selection of video clips of him he looks a decent prospect but what does this mean for the players we already have? And what does it mean for the club in general?
Straight away I personally think the likelihood of signing Ozil has decreased from slim to no chance. If we did in fact spend £7.4m on this unknown prospect than I doubt we are about to spend another potential £15m on the German player a lot of us would sorely like to see signed.
I have seen quite a negative backlash towards him and his signing ( I have seen him referred to as ‘sh*t’ as well as inevitable comparisons with Manucho due to Queiroz’s involvement in his signing) as many people also feel we won’t be signing Ozil due to his arrival. I say lets see him in action first and give him a chance before we pass judgement, this could turn out to be a more fruitful signing.
In terms of who we already have here it is being said that this spells the end of Danny Welbeck’s United career especially as he is on the verge of joining Sunderland on loan (Welbeck had undergone a medical at time of writing). Personally I feel it affects Macheda, King and Keane just as much. It is unlikely United will keep 6 strikers at the club with Rooney, Berbatov, Owen, Hernandez and Macheda being stated as our attacking options for the season so will Bebe be played as a striker anyway? Another possibility is that he may not even stay here this season and a loan back to Vitoria Guimaraes has been mentioned.
Last season we were caught short offensively and it was part of the reason we ended up losing out to Chelsea in the league. The problem appeared to have been solved with the signing of Hernandez but the addition of Bebe makes it even more interesting.
His signing presents more questions than it does answers but when we actually see him play, in a United shirt or otherwise, maybe the picture will become that bit more clear.
