Patrice Evra has been handed a 5 match ban from the French national team for his involvement in France’s shambolic World Cup.

Evra who was captain was videoed arguing with a French coach and also went on strike with the rest of his players n a protest against now departed manager Raymond Domenech.

France exited the World Cup at the group stages finishing bottom of a group that also contained hosts South Africa, Uruguay and Mexico.

A statement from the French Football Federation stated:

“Nicolas Anelka is sanctioned with an 18-game suspension from selection for the France team.

“A five-game suspension from selection for the France team has been issued to Patrice Evra.

“Franck Ribery will have to serve a three-game suspension.

“Jeremy Toulalan is punished with one-game suspension.

“The commission takes note of the explanation provided by Eric Abidal, who has not been sanctioned.”

Sounds selfish but I’m not displeased, his ban means he can focus on United. Last season he played a ridiculous amount of games and the ban means he will get some much needed rest during the season.
