Well it appears our appeal has fallen on deaf ears. Last month we called for Rodrigo Possebon to be given a chance before he is written off but it looks like just 1 game into the season his United career is over.

Possebon has gone back to Brazil, having signed a 4 year deal with Santos with some Brazilian outlets are saying they have only bought 35% of his rights.

Upon signing, Possebon said:

“It’s a pleasure to be at a club like Santos. It is a unique opportunity and I will work hard to give my best here. I hope to play a lot of times here.”

“It was a great experience playing in Europe and I have made progress as a player.  Now, I want to adapt as quickly as possible.”

Possebon’s United career went downhill following a robust challenge from Emmanuel Pogatez in a Carling Cup tie against Middleborough in 2008. He went on loan to Sporting Braga at the start of last season but was unable to break into the team and returned to the club half way through having made just 1 appearance.

Possebon made eight apps for the first team (3 starts, 5 subs) and 29 apps (all starts) for the Reserves. He scored twice for the Reserves.

very sad to hear that… i saw the match against borouh on tv… its really sad… he would have been a great player for us… good luck! have a great career…

  2. He's back. says:

Best of luck to the lad, i felt he would make it here as he had all the talent to be a Utd star but it went pear shape aft that boro scum tried seriously hurt the kid to our bitter rivals delight. The kid always looked sharp when played for us and its sucks that he be going, hopefully we meet again Rodrigo but till then you enjoy your time at Santos, hope you stamp your mark and really make a name for yourself.

shame. possebon was a wonderful player and I was rooting for him all the way, it appeared that injury and his disasterous braga loan ruin any chance of a manchester united career. good luck in brasil rodrigo.

I’am Santos fan and Possebon is unknown here. He is an idol to replace what is being sold (Wesley) and soon to be one of the greatest flyers / midfielders in the world! The Santos had in that first half the best football team on the planet. Unfortunately the strength of European money has not left us dreaming more than six months, and I broke up our team, taking our star players. Possebon will be very well treated in Santos!

Nice to hear from you Andrei, you have a decent team already and now you’ve signed Possebon & Neymar has confirmed he is staying you must be happy!

Hopefully we kept a buy back clause. I honestly know little about him and while I’m sympathetic to his recent history, I also have my doubts that he would be unused if he was extremely gifted. But he does deserve some benefit of doubt and let’s hope the door isn’t 100% shut in case he pulls a “Rossi” on us.

santos has succeeded in stopping chelski trying to poach another kid, neymar was not for sale and congratulations to santos to getting a win for football. I hear they are also working on keeping ganso who those bitters are trying to steal and will fail as santos as fighting for the good of the game. I will like to congratulate santos on the capture of possebon, rodrigo is a great talent and it’s a shame he got hurt than had that horrible loan deal as I believe he would of had a future here, good luck.

Such a shame. It’s never nice to hear of someone falling at the final hurdle. Good luck in Santos, Roddy.
