‘Rooney is a chav’, ‘Rooney is vulgar’ supposedly what Kiko Macheda told told the Italian daily Gazzetta dello Sport if you are to believe the numerous media sources that picked up on this story at lunch time today.

Back in his native Italy, the young starlet spoke to the press (not just that paper) also dismissing rumours linking him with a return to Lazio and made the statement that “Rooney is a really great person, he always gives me advice, but he’s a bit of a coatto,” well atleast according to the Guardian. They then decided to use a useless translation to decipher the meaning of ‘coatto’ and from that they had a story: “Rooney is a chav/vulgar”.

If coming up with a crap translation wasn’t bad enough, then the manner in which it was reported made his comments seem a tad sinister as it appeared that Macheda was taking a pop at Rooney.

According to Gabrielle Marcotti ‘coatto’ does NOT mean vulgar and whilst it is term similar to ‘chav’ it can be said affectionately and more importantly he said “Like me, he’s a bit ‘coatto’.” All things that were left out by people looking for an angle that simply wasn’t there.

Always nice when things like this are cleared up, now we can get back to concentrating on what’s important: football.
