When it comes to goalkeeping, Peter Schmeichel knows his stuff.
Possibly United’s best goalkeeper ever and a clear shout for one of all the greatest of all time replacing a man like him took United years and after 6 we finally did so in Edwin van der Sar. Now Edwin has hit crazy heights between the sticks providing a stability we sorely lacked after Schmeichel had left.
Now Edwin is coming to the end of his career a number of keepers are being sounded out and Schmeichel himself has offered his two cents stating we should go after Liverpool’s keeper Pepe Reina:
“You can look at talent, you can look at young, good players – you don’t want that. You want someone that can go in straight away and give performances in 80% of the games that the No. 1 choice goalkeeper will play for Manchester United… The rumours are very, very strong around Old Trafford with this. A lot of goalkeepers are mentioned, but Reina seems to be the one that fits in the team and if he ever was to leave Liverpool, which again there is a big, big rumour he will, Manchester United would be a great club for him to come to.
I hope that someone like Pepe Reina will go to United when Edwin calls it a day and I hear rumours that he is going to leave Liverpool so for him to go to Man Utd would be very, very good for us.”
Very big claims from Schmeichel but would Reina really cross the divide? He has just signed a 6 year contract at Anfield so is a departure on the cards especially to Old Trafford?

he has a 20 million pound buy out clause and he made it clear he wants to leave…. i think man united is the only club that would be willing to meet the buy out clause in january, as city or madrid wont need him and barca has other priorities… the only other club that needs a new world class keeper is bayern.. but they can get manuel neuer for less than half of that price… and it would be much better to spend 20 million on reina than 15-18 million on de gea … and if ronnie is sold in january.. torres might be tempted to move to man united … but i would prefer only reina… and we can get djeko for much less fee and on lesser wages….
