A fully fit and fully focussed Wayne Rooney is a big asset to any side. He dragged United through parts of last season to second place in the league, and falling short at the end was largely due to an ankle injury which wouldn’t heal in time. It was the first season that Rooney first really took centre stage at Old Trafford, his contributions being equally important in previous years but overshadowed by the draw of Christiano Ronaldo. The 2009-10 Wayne Rooney could turn these current draws into wins, and with fixtures against Arsenal and Chelsea coming up it is important to have our best players on top form.
A friend of mine compares Rooney’s return to the return of Robbie Williams to Take That. Not all the team may want him there, not all the fans may want him back, but an extra world class performer in the line-up can only be a good thing. Wayne Rooney’s return could well be the defining moment in our season. Unless, of course, he leaves in January…..
