Ole departs but will Eikrem be going with him?

As it had been speculated Ole Gunnar Solskjaer may be taking Magnus Eikrem with him back to Molde.

The young midfielder could be set to rejoin his hometown team after playing his and Ole’s last game for United’s reserves, a hammering 5-1 victory over Newcastle on Thursday night.

The positives from this is that he will likely get the game time he needs to develop properly and if he does go on to become the player that many feel he will, United will be at the front of the queue for his signature.

The news broke yesterday and was at first regarded as just rumour but has picked up momentum with Norwegian station TV2 Sporten running with the story.

The captain of the second string was reported to have said his goodbyes at Carrington yesterday but also saying he would see everyone in February, the same month we have signed up to play a friendly with Molde behind closed doors at Carrington.

TV2 Sporten 2 are claiming that only formalities remain ahead of him signing and that Eikrem, whose contract expires in the summer, will make a million kroner a year working under Ole.

Again at the moment nothing has been confirmed but it will be a massive disappointment to lose a very talented player. I’ve chronicled Eikrem for a while now on various sites and was confident that he would be able to make the step up into the first team as did many others thus the news will have come as a shock.

When more news becomes available I’ll be blogging about it.
