Hull City have completed the signing of defender James Chester from Manchester United for an undisclosed fee.

Chester had spent the first half of the season on loan with Carlisle and scored four goals in 24 appearances for the League One club.

However, he has now been offloaded by Sir Alex Ferguson and has signed a three-and-a-half year contract at the KC Stadium.

Reports suggest the Tigers have spent in the region of £300,000 on the centre-half, who made just one senior appearance during his United career.

Chester is ineligible for Saturday’s FA Cup third round tie against Wigan Athletic, but is set to start their next league game at home to Barnsley a week on Saturday.
