Eric Cantona has made his long awaited return to football – but not with Manchester United.

The mercurial Frenchman will take over as the director of football at hopeful MLS Franchise the New York Cosmos. The Cosmos played in the now defunct North American Soccer League and are looking to return to football in 2013.

Boasting former players like Pele, Franz Beckenbauer and Carlos Alberto, the Cosmos have a decent history and are looking to make waves in the MLS boasting a team that includes Pele as club President, David Beckham’s ex-manager Terry Byrne as vice chairman and former Liverpool chief executive Rick Parry as a director.

Good Luck with that one!
