POLL: MOTM vs Blackpool

I was preparing my gracious in defeat loser speech.

I was ready to declare that as well as Blackpool had planned United had been equally as poor

Shame on me! I must have forgotten it was Manchester United I was watching!

These are the nights you live for, when it all seems hopeless and it looks over there is something in United that says we’ll write our destiny not you and that’s exatly what we did tonight.

We started off well but following Blackpool’s opener, a bullet header from former United youngster Craig Cathcart, things went down hill. They would grab a second and United  didn’t look like getting back into it. At half time the woeful Gibson was swapped for Giggs and although Blackpool went close with the first attack after the break United slowly started getting back into the game.

Rooney being swapped for Hernandez was another pivotal moment and when the Mexican beat the offside trap and raced through alone on goal moments after coming on you would have put your house on him scoring – he didn’t. Thwarted by Kingson’s leg United remained behind but it was a start and United looked to have stirred.

This proved the case as moments later Berbatov pulled us back into the game with a volley from point black range.

Minutes later Hernandez was put through and he made no mistake this time putting past Kingson and putting United firmly back in the driving seat to take the points.

I’ve heard some nonsense about Berbatov this season, only Berbatov can score so many goals and still cop blame for something but the claim that he only scores unimportant goals, in a glut when they have no bearing on the game goes out of the window as he set United on the road to a win and sealed it with the winner.

Paul Scholes hits a world class ball out wide Berbatov collected it advanced on Blackpool’s goal then slammed it past the hapless Kingson, mission complete.

Amidst all the joy of the comeback you have to be worried about Rafael, after the nasty head clash with Marlon Harewood saw the diminutive Brazilian taken off with a concussion. The look of concern on Fabio’s face told the story more than I or anyone else can and we just hope that he is fine.

United again showed tonight, write us of at your own peril. We didn’t make it easy for ourselves and whilst they may make for exciting games you have to realise that not all teams will fold like Blackpool did. What we saw tonight was an iron willed United who were determined not to taste defeat against a resilient but ultimately over matched Blackpool.

Let’s hope they don’t make it as heart stopping next time, there is a history of high blood pressure in my family and I’m enjoying life at the moment!
