Nemanja Vidic’s performances have impressed all this season.

The Serbian has become a stalwart in the back line displaying his no nonsense approach to the game against anyone he comes up against.

Whilst he has always been a colossus for us, it appears that being awarded the armband has taken his game up another notch and whilst that is good news for us, it is bad news for anyone he comes up against and Ryan Giggs has noticed this too. Speaking to the club’s official website Giggs remarked:

“Taking over the captaincy can sometimes bring out the best in players, and I think it has with Vida. Some players just go up a notch when they get added responsibility. I’ve seen it happen before with Roy Keane and Eric Cantona. Vida’s one of the best defenders this club has ever had and he leads by example week in, week out.”

Being named as one of the best defenders the club has ever had by a man that has been at the club long enough to know is huge praise for the Serb and even more so when you consider the rich history we have in terms of defenders but there is one specific defender Giggs saw a resemblance with,

“He has been brilliant for us this season. He’s a proper old-school defender and he just loves everything about his job: tackling, battling for possession and heading the ball clear. He’s like Steve Bruce was in the way he puts his body on the line, week after week.”
