As it was revealed last week, Patrice Evra has put pen to paper on a new deal at the club.

Whilst the story broke last Thursday night, on Friday morning at his presser Sir Alex stated there was nothing to report but all the kinks appear to have been ironed out as the French defender has signed an extension to his current deal that will see him remain here until 2014.

The deal should put an end to the constant speculation that he was set to join Real Madrid in the summer but also shifts the focus onto another player as it is now unlikely that he was the mystery player that stated he ‘loved Manchester United but hated Manchester as a City’.

Evra cited a hunger to win more trophies as a reason to continuing his United odyssey saying:

‘Ever since I arrived at United, it’s been a dream come true playing here. The fans, the players, the manager and the staff all work hard to make this club the best in the world. I have won a lot in the last five years, but I want to win more and I know that’s the mentality of everyone here.’

Sir Alex paid tribute to Evra following his decision to sign on stating,

‘Patrice is unquestionably one of the world’s best left-backs. He has developed into a key character in the dressing room and it is great that he has committed himself to the club. His experience and skill will be increasingly important to us.’
