Red cards, penalties and great goals, the Manchester / FA Youth Cup tie was definitely played in the spirit of the clubs.

United were 2-0 down thanks to a brace from Liverpool’s Adam Morgan down but the game took a change of direction in the 55th minute when a powerful run from Tunnicliffe caused all manner of panic and Sama was sent off for hauling the midfielder down.

A red card followed but Sama wouldn’t be the only person to be dismissed.

, already on a yellow, stepped up to take the penalty and after a cheeky shuffle to send the keeper the wrong way was ordered to retake. The shuffle (or his protest) earned him a second yellow and he was sent off too. who had been growing into the game as it went on stepped up and scored 2-1.

Then Cole set up Morrison as his run and drive across the box found an unmarked Morrison who slotted home and Morrison made it 3-2 with 5 minutes to go with a superb volley from the edge of the box from a Cole corner.

There was still time for more bust up as Blackett and Coady were sent off for another clash that left the Liverpool captain with a bloody nose and McGinty and Wisdom were lucky not to see be sent off after a scuffle at the end too.

Personally I was impressed with Tunnicliffe, Johnstone and Cole who all played their part in the result.

United now face who beat Watford in this round.
