Red cards, penalties and great goals, the Manchester United/Liverpool FA Youth Cup tie was definitely played in the spirit of the clubs.

United were 2-0 down thanks to a brace from Liverpool’s Adam Morgan down but the game took a change of direction in the 55th minute when a powerful run from Tunnicliffe caused all manner of panic and Sama was sent off for hauling the midfielder down.

A red card followed but Sama wouldn’t be the only person to be dismissed.

Paul Pogba, already on a yellow, stepped up to take the penalty and after a cheeky shuffle to send the keeper the wrong way was ordered to retake. The shuffle (or his protest) earned him a second yellow and he was sent off too. Larnell Cole who had been growing into the game as it went on stepped up and scored 2-1.

Then Cole set up Morrison as his run and drive across the box found an unmarked Morrison who slotted home and Morrison made it 3-2 with 5 minutes to go with a superb volley from the edge of the box from a Cole corner.

There was still time for more bust up as Blackett and Coady were sent off for another clash that left the Liverpool captain with a bloody nose and McGinty and Wisdom were lucky not to see be sent off after a scuffle at the end too.

Personally I was impressed with Tunnicliffe, Johnstone and Cole who all played their part in the result.

United now face Chelsea who beat Watford in this round.

Great game and a fantastic comeback only spoilt by some poor refereeing decisions. First half Utd couldn’t really get a grip of the game and having the lack of an out and out front man was an obvious weakness. Second half and despite them scoring another goal and the whole Pogba penalty debacle we grew into the game and looked allot sharper. Tunnicliffe was fantastic, dare I say he reminds me of Gerrard in the way he drives the team forward from midfield with his commitment and determination. Morrison came up with a quality finish and showed maturity considering it got a bit frantic and could of easily got caught up in it all. Cole also had a good game, quick feet, pace and balance looks another exciting prospect.

I have always loved morrisons on field attitude..His flair and close control lead to a fair share of kicking from the opponents, but he usually always gets back up and never complains..I feel Pogba is more of the moaner:)..Ryan again looked the part, no wonder he’s been plastered as the new keano, seems to be in the same mould..
Its amazing how the winning mentality is cultivated at such young levels..You could see how much this win meant and what beating liverpool was to the club..Fantastic game..
