VIDEO GOALS: Hernandez braces helps United into the quarter finals

In a nervy tie a brace from Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez was enough to see us into the Champions League quarter finals despite the best efforts of Marseille.

United will be in the draw for the quarter finals for the 12th time in the competition’s history (as the Champions League) on Friday after Hernandez got onto the end of Rooney’s ball across the box in the first 5 minutes. Marseille had chances, most notably Diawara’s free header past the post but United appeared to put the tie to bed in the 75th minute when Hernandez scored a simple tap in from a Giggs cross following a lovely reverse pass from Antonio Valencia.

United had a scare on the 82nd minute though when Wes Brown headed past Edwin van der Sar setting up a tense finish but United held on to secure passage into the next round.

There are injury worries though as John O’Shea and his eventual replacement Rafael were both taken off with hamstring injuries.
