Steele seeking German efficiency

With Edwin van der Sar adamant that he will hang up his gloves at the end of the season, Manchester United will undoubtedly search high and low to find a man to fill the void Edwin’s absence will create.

There have been tons of theories as to who will be the man to replace him, goalkeeping coach Eric Steele has apparently been learning Spanish in anticipation for David De Gea’s arrival, Edwin himself has touted Ajax’s Maarten Stekelenburg and various goalkeepers has expressed their admiration for the club in an attempt to through their name into the reckoning.

There will have been tons of scouting missions all across Europe and the latest saw Steele attend Schalke’s game with Leverkusen to again cast an eye on German internationals Rene Adler and Manuel Neuer and whilst he conceded twice Steele will be impressed with the string of saves Neuer made including two in the opening 10 minutes to keep Leverkusen at bay.

New Schalke manager Ralf Rangnick has insisted he wants to keep Neuer but the fact Schalke are in the Champions League quarter finals doesn’t seem like it is enough to satisfy the keeper who is said to be disappointed with Schalke’s form and position in the league this season whilst Adler has stated he is open to a move to United and may have a clause in his contract that allows him to move to United if we match Leverkusen’s valuation.
