Following his eye catching cameo against Sunderland’s reserves Paul Pogba added to his ever growing catalogue of stunning goals with a proper belter against Derby.

Derby twice took the lead against United at Moor Farm but Pogba’s long range effort late in the game ensured United would get a share of the spoils.

Callum Ball had Derby ahead within a minute after some poor defending but United were to pull level before the break after a strong spell of pressure.

Paul Pogba broke up a Derby attack played the ball to Jesse Lingard who found Jack Barmby out wide. He passed to Tom Lawrence who created space for himself after some clever close control then bent the ball around the helpless Derby keeper.

Derby would restore their lead through ROI u19 midfielder Jeff Hendrick after Callum Ball caught Pogba in possession and played the ball to Hendrick who hammered a shot past Sam Johnstone. The goal would not deter United though and they continued to press and were finally rewarded for their hard work in the most spectacular fashion.

With 15 minutes to go Paul Pogba controlled a headed clearance and like Lawrence showed great close control to make space for himself and let rip with a shot that left the Derby keeper with no chance.

United continued to press for a winner with Van Velzen going particularly close but it never came and the game finished 2-2 leaving Derby manager Darren Wassall to comment,

“We thought we had done enough to win, but their equaliser was a moment of brilliance and that’s why they are one of the major powers in youth football.”
