Despite claims that we would be lucky to see him again this season, Rio Ferdinand’s injury struggles could be about to come to an end.

Ferdinand has been out with a calf injury since pulling up in the warm up against Wolves on February 1st and despite Sir Alex’s claims that his season may be over, the defender travelled to Germany on Monday to receive an injection in his back in an attempt to alleviate the problem and having him back in the reckoning for the business end of the season according to The Guardian.

The injection was administered by Bayern Munich club doctor Dr. Hans-Wilhelm Müller-Wohlfahrt who has worked with Steven Gerrard and Ronaldo in the past and it is thought that if the treatment is succesful we could see Rio back in time for the second leg of the Champions League tie against Chelsea and the FA Cup semi final against Man City days later.

Ferdinand is just one of many defenders the team is missing and whilst his return would not solve all of our problems at the back it would provide a huge boost as United compete on three fronts for silverware.
