United in groundbreaking Brazilian deal
United have agreed a ground breaking deal with Sao Paulo academy Desportivo Brasil and whilst it isn’t the massive exclusive The Daily Mail are making it out to be (details of the deal with Traffic who own Desportivo, despite being sketchy, were revealed back in 2008 when United were looking at defender Dodo) there is still an air of secrecy around it as confidentiality agreements prevent Desportivo Brasil from revealing which of the numerous teenagers on their books have agreed pre-contract deals with United.
Although this confidentiality agreement is in place, more light has been shed on the deal when 5 of the youngster from the academy flew to Manchester to watch our 1-0 win over Bolton. Despite being touted as Douglas Costa and his entourage, it was actually midfielders Gladstony, Rafael Leao, Agnaldo and Lucas Evangelista and promising striker Aguilar.
FC Twente become useful as the kids signed by United from the Brazilian academy will be cultivated at the Dutch club whilst also being afforded time to get international experience thus qualifying for a work permit or even better where they can stay until they get EU passports.
United’s tactic of buying talent young and developing has been fruitful this season with both Smalling and Hernandez starring and this is a further case of our commitment to the cause.
