End of the road for Hargreaves?

Injuries have not been kind to Manchester United and England midfielder Owen Hargreaves as reports of him damaging his shoulder have surfaced. The injury is yet another obstacle in his desperate race to get fit and play for the Red Devils again this season.

Hargreaves signed for Manchester United back in May 2007 for £19m from Bayern Munich and has made just 38 appearances for the club in the past three years. He appeared to be on course for a timely return to the first team but that is no longer possible as he has supposedly injured shoulder ligaments whilst challenging for a header in training on Friday.

This latest blip in a long history of injury problems (mostly involving a problematic and chronic knee injury) is not welcome news for United fans as the England international’s contract runs out in June and it is rumoured that the Old Trafford hierarchy have finally lost patience with the midfielder and will not be renewing his deal.

Hargreaves made just one appearance earlier this season against Wolves in November, but his comeback did not go as planned as he had to be substituted six minutes into the game after tearing his hamstring.

Author’s note – Hargreaves might just be the answer to our midfield problems this season but unfortunately his number could be up. 38 appearances in the past three seasons speaks for itself and if he does not play again for United this season, I don’t expect him to feature for us again.
