It was pegged as mission impossible having not won at Stamford Bridge in 9 years but tonight United broke the hoodoo with a 1-0 win over Chelsea in the first leg of the Champions League quarter final tie.

In an exciting tie United took the lead just after the 20 minute mark when Ryan Giggs controlled an excellent ball from Michael Carrickand laid it off to Wayne Rooney who shot went in off the inside of the post. Chelsea almost got back into the tie just after the break when Evra cleared off the line and had a number of chances in the second whilst we had a goal disallowed.

Late on Chelsea had a penalty shout when Evra bundled over Ramires (on further inspection it appeared outside the box) but it wasn’t given and United held on to secure a 1-0 win.

Very disciplined performance. Exactly what you need against a Chelsea who can do a lot of damage on their day!

Also, magnificent ball by Carrick for the goal!

He was tireless today. He gets criticised routinely by most Utd fans, but he always does his job without complaining and is an absolute professional.

Special mention for Tony V too!
