DOCUMENTARY: Busby, Stein & Shankly – Football Men

Following the BBC’s dramatisation of the Busby Babes and the Munich Air Disaster there has been much dispute about the portrayal of Sir Matt Busby.

Whilst some felt he was merely an aside in the film others have complained about his portrayal and how he came across as more of a gangster than a football manager.

Regardless of the BBC’s depiction in United, fans are aware of his character and nature via various documentaries, books and floating bits of footage, like this.

This documentary originally aired on the BBC follows the footballing lives of Britain’s and football’s great managers in Sir Matt, Liverpool’s Bill Shankly and Celtic’s Jock Stein. All 3 have a storied history in the game, are revered at their respective clubs and experienced European success helping to enhance their legendary status.

Using interviews, accounts of those around in their time etc it helps build a better picture of Sir Matt and allows us to really get to grips with him instead of the dramatised accounts that caused such uproar.
