Firstly let me start by saying the hype is very very real, Schalke’s Manuel Neuer is a great goal keeper. Big, imposing, brave he did well to keep United at bay as long as he did.

At first it looked like Schalke (Neuer) would be able to go into the second leg at Old Trafford on even terms then after the half, Schalke woke up and it looked like they could even nick a goal but thanks to the tandem of Giggs and Rooney we will be going into the second leg with and extremely comfortable lead and will be favourite to make the final in Wembley next month.

Neuer kept Hernandez, Rooney and Giggs at bay at various times in the first half but when Giggs came knocking in the second there was nothing he could do. Excellently found by Rooney in the 67th minute, the Welshman slid the ball between the keeper’s legs then minutes later Rooney doubled the lead after latching on to Hernandez’s pass and firing low past Neuer.

An absolutely masterful performance. Yes, Shalke were conspicuous by their absence but these games have got to be won, and win it we did. Valencia was a God down the right.

I’ve said it before here, but United breaking a team to ruins, as happened tonight, is possibly the happiest I am as a supporter.

Fantastic game, well played and well done United. They played like Champions and surely deserve to be crowned champions this year, against all odds we stood and pulled it together when others thought we couldn’t. God bless them further in this vital and important stages of the season. I’m glad I chose Man U as a team to support as a young man
