Having lost to Blackburn in the Reserve North play off last week, United were keen to set things straight in the final of the Manchester Senior Cup and did just that.

With a team that had smatterings of first team faces as well as well as the recently returning Matty James, United secured the MSC with goals from Nicky Ajose, Reece Brown and Davide Petrucci.

Ajose had missed a number chances earlier in the half but when Darren Fletcher picked him out he made no mistake of putting past Bolton keeper Lainton 5 minuted before half time.

After Vela felled Darren Fletcher, United guaranteed they would go into the break ahead a minute before the half ended when Brown fired in a long range freekick which went through the wall past a helpless Lainton.

Ina lively second half both team had chances and sub Josh King could have got onto the scoresheet around the hour mark but Lainton got his hand on the strikers low angled shot.

Bolton pulled a goal back 10 minutes from time when Tom Eaves fired past Lindegaard but United were in no mood to surrender their lead and could have reopened a two goal lead immediately if Lainton didn’t again deny Ajose.

5 minutes later though United did get their third when Davide Petrucci converted from the spot after Oliver Gill was clumsily brought down by Dennis. The Italian’s cooly taken penalty sealed the win for United as we the clock ran out at Old Trafford.

Encouragingly Darren Fletcher completed the full 90 minutes on the road to being fit for the Champions League final at Wembley in 2 weeks time.
