‘Impossible is Nothing’

I used to think it was just a cheesy slogan that Adidas used to peddle their gear but never has it been so poignant than now.

Manchester United have been written off by most quarters ahead of the game with Barca with the likes of Messi, Xavi and Iniesta blinding people to the obvious quality we also have.

It is being said that United have never been made such big under dogs but this game mirrors the situation we found ourselves in back in 1991 in the Cup Winners Cup.

Lead by the legendary Johan Cryuff, Barcelona were also favourites when they faced us at the De Kuip in the Cup Winners’ Cup final, their team boasted stars the same way Guardiola’s does but the result didn’t quite work out how people expected and United need to take that into account.

The hype around Barcelona will always be huge, people will praise them for their ‘tiki taka’ football but we need to look past that and play our game. This isn’t to say we should disregard them, try that and we will get hammered but it doesn’t mean that what they do should be the be all and end all of our performance.

If we can do this hopefully we can achieve a similar result as Sir Alex Ferguson did 20 years ago.
