Was just having a convo with a Scouse pal of mine on Facebook about how they beat us to the signings of Henderson and Phil Jones when I received a very pleasing piece of news!
Despite claims he was on his way to Melwood for a medical, it appears Blackburn’s defender Phil Jones is having a medical with us with the intentions of signing a 5 year deal at Old Trafford.
As far as I know we weren’t in for Henderson when his deal to Liverpool was agreed but Liverpool fans have used previous interest to claim they beat us to his signing. Jones has been linked with us previously but it appeared he was on his way to Anfield before Sir Alex swooped so the move for Jones, an instance in which the two teams effectively went head to head, will have annoyed them no end.
The deal is said to be worth £16m and Jones can also play in midfield too.

These young English players have proven nothing so who cares who they sign for. Their crazily inflated prices don’t mean they’re much good.
And ye can have Ashley “no brain” Young. Another average English player with no technical class. Poor old Fergie never learns from the whippings he gets from Europe’s best.

Jones at 19 has played a huge amount of premier league football, not many of his age have been as thoroughly tested. The option of playing him at the back or in front of the back 4 gives us great options, great piece of business. Look forward to seeing Jones, Smalling, the twins, Cleverly, Welbeck, and Chicarito playing many years for us. All under 22 with huge potential. Thats not mentioning the Youth cup winners to further strengthen the squad.
3 words……Anti Fucking Climax…..where’s the Marquee signings?? we need to compete with the likes of Barca next season so we sign Jones, possibly de Gea & varanne…..? Looks like Gill & Fergie have definitely done their homework……(sarcasm).

Not really expected or exciting; but probably a great signing regardless. People go on and on about overated English players, and while sometimes it’s merited (Carroll), in this case I think it’s a knee jerk reaction. The reality is he is terrific and playing exceptionally at such a young age. I’m pretty sure people slamming his signing will live to regret it.
Like you said, an added bonus of stealing him from Liverpool who really could’ve used a quality defender.
lol….some of you people are clueless. At a young age he has proved he is a leader & future captain, plays CB and DM and has been the best academy prospect out of rovers for many years. He is a fantastic signing and will prove to be a bargain in years to come. Rooney is an example of someone who was bought at an inflated fee, but ultimately proved good business. We beat 5 other top clubs to his signature including arsenal, tottenham and liverpool. Just think if ebeneezer scrooge wenger was willing to pay £16mill for a 19 year old defender, that proves he’s either going crazy or the kids special. I believe the latter 🙂
