As talk of Samir Nasri’s potential move to Old Trafford gathers pace another former Manchester United player has voiced his opinion.

Paul Scholes most recently stated that he would like to see Nasri join United and now former defender Paul Parker has stated that Nasri would be a good fit at Old Trafford and paid him a massive compliment en route, likening him to talismanic Eric Cantona.

Whilst Nasri has been derided for supposedly trying to earn a huge pay rise he himself has stated that the want of trophies is the main motivator behind any potential departure from The Emirates, resulting in football bet tips being placed on an Arsenal exit for the Frenchman.

Citing the last piece of silverware he won, a European u17 championship with France, Nasri stated he wants to win the trophies and accolades, which will therefore see his name added to the pantheon of greats that have gone before him and Paul Parker feels he can do that at Old Trafford as he wrote in his column for EuroSport,

“Nasri would be a more natural fit at United and would be used better by the manager – he would be the focal point of the side and Fergie loves those kind of players.

“When Eric Cantona signed he said, ‘When Eric wants the ball, you give it to him regardless of where he is on the pitch’ and Nasri is of a similar ilk.

“I think he would relish playing for Manchester United where he knows he could be one of the greats.”

A Cantona comparison is lofty praise but there are more than just fleeting similarities between the two, the most obvious being their links with Marseille. As more and more people add their support to a United move for the French midfielder you begin to think that the signing, despite still being unlikely, may happen.

    Brian,

your sources are about as good as your mom in bed

    …worthless

      Easy mate, that’s not needed!

      • Jon says:

not to be crude, in fact i apologize for the poor taste.

the point i’m trying to make is that my comment is just as worthless as his is.

I suppose “Sources have told me that your mom is poor in bed” would have been the cleverer jab, although equally poor in taste.

hope it’s true. He’ll make a good midfield dynamo.

    As far as Nasri…

he is an exciting player, but how does he fit into the midfield?

watching him play for Arsenal last season, he seemed to operate best on the right side of the field…aka Nani territory. I know we’re looking for him to play in the middle, but with United playing a 4-3-3 more often than not, the man in the middle needs to be a defensive midfielder, which Nasri is not.

    unless the top six is

    Rooney–Hernandez–Nani

    Young—-DMF—–Nasri

then i don’t see how Nasri fits.

    • Jon says:

and even here we have Rooney being shunted to the left. not that he can’t play there, but he works best in a 4-4-1-1 or a 4-3-1-2 where he is playing in the space behind the strikers… not off to the left.

Don’t get me wrong, i’m excited by Nasri, and i feel like he would do fantastically well at United, i just think the team as currently constructed will not get the most out of all the players at the same time.

I am an Arsenal fan – I thought it best to be upfront about it and state that at the start.

Wenger has constantly stated that Nasri will be sold abroad if he won’t sign a new contract. Barring silly money I find it hard to see him bending on that. My sources also tell me that Arsenal are on the verge of 3 or 4 big signings that could convince Nasri to stay. I however am resigned to losing him.

Nasri would do well at Utd but he is not as consistent as others out there. Blame that on Arsenal’s failures all you like but the fact remains he simply did not step up when necessary. If Utd really want an attacking midfielder Modric would be a better option imo.

    • Jon says:

they would buy Modric to be the holding midfielder in a 4-3-3… not the attacking midfielder.

i agree with your assesment though, Wenger has no incentive to sell Nasri to United anything less of silly money,,, provided that he can move Nasri abroad

A couple of weeks ago Nasri stated that Arsenal were the best team last season. He is holding out for the best deal and that will happen. Arsenal have a huge budget avialable to spend. Why would he want to go to United? Yes, United have won trophies but that was because Arsenal collapsed after the carling cup. That is what Wenger must deal with and work out. Away Arsenal were the best team and in fact until late February even Sir Alex said Arsenal were the main challengers for the title. Add to that that we beat Barcelona fair and square at the Emirates and have never been beaten by them with 11 men on the pitch. All the rest is just waffle and gossip. I tell you this, whilst there is respect for Alex Ferguson for bringing out the very best in his players, there is not one Arsenal supporter who would trade what Wenger has created here for what you have achieved at United. We have immense talent coming through and will surely add some ‘big name’ signings. We were awesome until the very end of last season and with all the british bulldog spirit that is coming here we will not flinch when it comes to the crunch next year. We beat you last time and have beaten you many times under Wenger and taken many trophies from you. We have a shrewd man in charge who will bring glory back to Arsenal and for a fraction of the cost of the Chelsea and Citys of thsi league and also yourselves. He who laughs last laughs longest and we will be laughing when the fair play rules come in. We may have lost the battle but we will win the war. And we will play the best attacking football and contnue to entertain the world. Don;t be too quick to critisize, you may be on top now but things change quickly in football.

Deluded!!! He is gone and Arsenal do not have the money to pay big wages like Chelsea or Man City or teh success and attraction of Liverpool? and Man Utd.

  7. Brian says:

    • Jon says:

Brian, i hate what you represent, but I pity you.

no one man should have all that power hah

  8. Gavin says:

Nasri only gets back to London on Thursday so a meeting with Wenger isn’t possible in the time been.
A holding midfielder is what we need or maybe SAF has something up his sleeve, well we hope. Pogba is one option for SAF that I will love to see sit in the centre

  9. CyalaterCarlos says:

Nasri plays better centrally guys & he hates playing the flanks……& if he wants to join united there isn’t much wenger can do as he stated he wants to stay in the premier league & city are more arsenals level so again it would be a crap move by wenget to sell him to shitee……
Welcome to O.T Samir………..u know the rest !
