“Replacing Scholes? We must all step up”

With the search for Paul Scholes replacement continuing, it appears inside the club the players are read to pick up the slack themselves.

United have been linked with Luka Modric, Samir Nasri and the chase for Inter Milan’s Wesley Sneijder continues if the press is to be believed. Former players like Gary Neville and Paul Scholes himself have spoken up the attributes of these players but inside the club it appears that the players feel if nobody is brought in they are well equipped to carry the extra load.

Michael Carrick’s form at the end of last season began to show a marked improvement as he pulled the strings in Europe helping United get to the final of the Champions League as well as push on to win the league and he feels that United can pull together as a team to soften the blow of Scholes’ departure as he told the club’s official site,

“Losing a player like Paul is a loss – he brings so much to the team.

“He was a world-class player, so you have to compensate in other ways.

“We have done that in the past – we lost Cristiano Ronaldo a few years ago and people didn’t think we’d get over it. But different players step up – maybe it is not one player but we share the responsibility.”

I agree with Carrick to an extent as it has been written on here before the midfield whilst not spectacular can do the job at least domestically. It is in Europe that we will face a tougher task of tasting success after Barcelona raised the bar so high.
