With Sir Alex introducing youth into his squad this season, the likes of Tom Cleverley and Danny Welbeck have been handed chances to shine.

Sir Alex insisted last season that they would be given opportunities and he has stuck to his word and to his credit, the faith he showed when suggesting they were ready to make the step has proved has been repaid.

Both have shown in their appearances, be it pre season, the Community Shield or in the league, that they have the ability to succeed at Old Trafford.

Cleverley and Welbeck have both benefitted from the loan system and Welbeck especially is thankful for his spell away from Old Trafford as he told the club’s official website,

“My main aim when I went to Sunderland was to get games in the Premier League. I did that and I think I handled it pretty well.

“When you’re playing week in, week out it really helps your confidence. You get on a run with things which helps your form and you pick up so many little things along the way which are invaluable.

“I went through a good spell just before Christmas but unfortunately picked up an injury soon after. There are always going to be positives and negatives and I’ve learnt from both those experiences and come back to United a better person.

“I’m pretty happy with the way things have gone so far.

“I’m delighted to have been starting up front and I’ve put in a few decent performances.

“Playing games is what I want to be doing. I don’t want to be sitting on the bench. I want to be playing regularly for Manchester United. There’s nothing better than that and that’s my main aim.”

One response to ““I’ve come back to United a better person.””

I’m glad Welbeck is back and getting a chance, but he still has a lot of improving to do. His first touch and general control needs to be worked on. Also at times his final ball lets him down. He is still raw but at 20 you would expect that. He has the right qualities to be successful. The main thing is you can’t improve if you don’t play and this season he will get games for us.

He isn’t alone in that fact. We have many in the squad whereby this is a big season for there developments. David De Gea getting a lot of stick right now, but the lad is quality. He needs games to improve his qualities and experience of England. Phil Jones, Fabio and Tom Cleverley are the other lads that need more games to aid there development and undoubted potential.

Players don’t improve by sitting on the side line and watching all the time. At some point you need to throw them in and see what they can do. Cleverley is a prime example of that. He wouldn’t get better by watching Sneijder play, he needs to be out there himself if he is going to become a top midfield player. Welbeck has the right attitude and I’m sure we will see great improvements in his game over the next couple of years.
