As a youthful United side rolled over Tottenham last night the country could not help but be impressed with this latest flock of United youngsters.

With an average age of 23 and missing star defenders Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic, United outlasted Spurs winning 3-0 following goals from Danny Welbeck, Anderson and Wayne Rooney.

An impressive team performance, some players were specifically singled out for praise by ex United and Tottenham striker Teddy Sheringham on Talksport,

“It’s at a time that without Rio Ferdinand andNemanja Vidic they would not have wanted to be starting the season but the players that have come in have done so well. Smalling looks like he has been there for years and the boy Phil Jones looked fantastic last night.

“But the two that have been most impressive for me have been Cleverley and Welbeck. Cleverley in midfield looks like a very accomplished player, he plays a very experienced game in midfield, just passing it and moving it when he has to. I’m sure he’s had years of watching Roy Keane and Paul Scholes and the way they play and I think he will be a follow on from that.

“And Welbeck; I am very impressed with him, especially with his movement and his backheel for the goal last night was fantastic.”
