“Players like Welbeck, Cleverley, Jones and Smalling are going to be bracketed alongside the Class of 92.”
Sir Alex has employed kids to steal the breath away from the rest of the league with Smalling, Jones and Evans at the back, a 20 year old David De Gea in goal and further forward Tom Cleverley impressing alongside Manchester born striker Danny Welbeck.
Generously named ‘Fergie’s Babes’, these players have quelled any unfounded fears fans may have had for United this season as well as silencing calls, atleast momentarily, for another monster signining and whilst Sir Alex may be proved wrong in not signing a midfielder, his faith in these players will do wonders for their confidence and it is showing onfield.
Some of the football we have played has been sumptuous, the product of players with sky high confidence and the likes of Welbeck and Cleverley have been at the heart of some of it.
Against Spurs on Monday, Cleverley and Welbeck linked up to open United’s scoring and then Welbeck, brimming with confidence, proceeded to steal the show before being subbed off to a standing ovation from the United fans.
Amongst those applauding were former United greats Gary Pallister and Bryan Robson and both feel that the youngsters have a bright future ahead of them,

“Back in 1995, we saw Hughes, Kanchelskis and Ince leave the club and, although we all knew the kids were a talented bunch, the gut feeling among the senior pros was that it would be at least a couple of seasons before we won the title again.
“Losing at Aston Villa on the opening day of the season appeared to bear that out, but it was a whack on the chin, the young lads took it and they matured so quickly that we ended up winning the Double.”
