A feast of goals at Old Trafford today as Manchester United ran riot against Arsenal.
Sensing weakness in the Arsenal camp, Manchester United ruthlessly went about exposing this and the end result was a resounding 8-2 victory over the north London outfit.
A hat trick from Rooney, a brace from Young and goals from Welbeck, Nani and Park secured this momentous win whilst it was left to Walcott and van Persie to spare Wenger’s men further blushes.
David De Gea will take heart from the number of good saves he made in the game as well as the penalty save from van Persie and again hopefully he can keep building from his performances.
The only blemish on today’s result was the loss of Danny Welbeck to injury. Having opened the scoring he has shown that give him a chance and he will score but injury means he is likely to lose his place in the team despite doing so well. We just hope he is back soon and at 100%.
It was a great result for the club and one we won’t forget soon. However we should recognise the team we where playing today. It wasn’t the normal Arsenal side, but take nothing away from out young players. They had a lot of pressure because people expected them to win. They put in a professional performance.
David De Gea had a great moment in the penalty save and made some good saves. He was a bit slack in the Walcott goal and needs to make sure he keeps his concentration, but his back four should have cleared the ball properly in the first place. The more games he plays the more confident he will become. He needs a run of 10-15 games and then we will see him feel more settled in goal.
Jones and Smalling where solid again for us and are proving great assets for the club. Anderson has another good game in midfield and his clever play created the first goal. At the moment he has the role as the main midfielder and hopefully he can continue to thrive in the role. Cleverley was solid again and passed the ball well, but should have scored. I can see Anderson and Fletcher being our main central midfield pairing as the season goes, but Cleverley and Carrick will be vital too.
The main positive today was the terrific performance of Ashley Young. The guy has settled so quickly and his performances are getting better. I knew he had the potential to score goals for us and today he scored two great goals. His link up play with Rooney is excellent. Nani was a bit slack at times in making the final pass, but he scored a good goal. I really feel Young and Nani can score between 10-15 each this season.
@ Andrew i see what your saying but the “However we should recognise the team we where playing today. It wasn’t the normal Arsenal side” statement holds no validity regardless of what team you put out the objective is to perform yes the arsenal team were bad but aren’t they better than stoke. bolton and OPR and we don’t ever beat them teams 8 – 2 even when they come to old trafford we never get a score that big
yes it was a weakened arsenal side but lets not forget they still had some dangerous players who can cause problems as they caused us a couple, walcott, van persie arshavin, we’ve lost vidic, ferdinand but fergie woudl never take that as an excuse the younger ones should come in and perform even if they don’t play well DONT GET BEAT 8 – 2
@JONDADON I get what your saying as well, the players deserve credit for such a fantastic attacking performance against Arsenal. You can only beat what’s in front of you and we did that. I do however think this Arsenal team today, mainly defensively and in midfield, was not much better than a newly promoted team. That is not to say we will win by such a margin against those teams.
My point was that although it was a fantastic result, and against Arsenal, this particular Arsenal team today was not great, so we shouldn’t read too much into it. We can’t think we are going to run away with the league based on today’s result. We will face tougher matches at home and, in all fairness, come up against better teams and players in Everton, Stoke, Bolton and Newcastle.
congrats man.u boys.thats what it feels like being a man. u fan.remember our golden boy for last season didint get involved it could have been 10 goals
I remember wolves putting thier whole 2nd team and we beat them 3 nil in a very competetive game which wolves held thier own…Arsenal yesterday had 6 first teamers that are very good and still didnt look the part… Lets not forget that Van persie, walcott, arshavin, ramsey(he wishes he had chosen to come to united), Djuorou, koncielny, schezny, rosiscy are part of thier line up…Its more lack of will determination and organisation from arsenal.
