United kept up their brilliant start to the season with a thumping 5-0 win over Bolton.

The result saw United return to the top of the table following Man City’s 3-0 win over Wigan earlier in the day, further reinforcing the notion that United and City will be the main combatants for the title.

Despite Rooney’s hat trick and Hernandez’s goal scoring ‘return’, Phil Jones real stole the plaudits with his performance and it seems game after game he is looking a snip at £17m. The defender showed a calmness at the back as well as a brilliance going forward that belies his age. His crossing from the right was on point and the run for Rooney’s goal was an eye catcher.

The fact that it is our young players that continue to steal the headlines is brilliant and confirm what we have all believed, our future is indeed very bright.

Cleverley will be disappointed to have picked up a foot injury that looks to have halted his rapid ascent but such has his quality been that when he returns he should not have to worry too much about recapturing his place.

Now your thoughts from our Facebook page:

Allan M: Tremendous performance. Wayne Rooney is such a monster, but Phil Jones deserves much credit too.

Rowan L: Tough to decide between third and fifth in terms of the best goal! Jones, Rooney, Hernandez and Nani all had quality games but Anderson looked disinterested when not in possession. Great performance but tougher tests lie ahead!

Stuart H: Jones was quality today, Rooney’s third was the pick of the bunch, great finish.

Blaine R: The boys are on fire! Gutted for Cleverley though, he had such a great start to the season.

Ehem F: Man United were ruthless with their opponents and I hope it will continue long enough for the title. Without Cleverly, Ando seems lost with the possession.

    great stuff all around.
-nice stuff from de gea, looked more confident on set pieces, and his distribution is looking like a young VDS which is so key for us
    – is there something Jones cant do? crossing and runs as well as steel in defence. unreal
    – all our strikers are on point
    – really hope clev is not out for long. i love his willingness to look forward, rather than back (carrick)
    – anderson is now a must start
    – evra looked better defending than he has lately.
good times ahead. lets do chelsea now.

Great performance on Saturday, the whole squad looks hungry for every game. For the full 90 minutes they never let their feet off the pedal and it probably should have been more than 5 if not for trying too hard to give Hernandez his hat-trick.

Jones, he can also play defensive midfield if required. I know a few season ticket holders at Ewood who say it doesn’t really matter where you put him, he’ll just fit right in.

De Gea is now starting to show the haters why he’s been brought in, but I don’t think we ever had any doubts.

Young seems to have taken the move in his stride but you have to feel for Valencia who didn’t really put a foot wrong last season after coming back from that awful injury.
