Sir Alex Ferguson has earmarked Wayne Rooney as a potential leader at Old Trafford some time in the future.
Rooney is currently in the form of his life with back to back hat tricks coming against Arsenal against Bolton and goes into the Chelsea match today firmly looking to add to his 8 goals.
This new look Rooney has been an integral part of a new look United team and Sir Alex Ferguson very well believes he could play an even more important role, becoming a leader.
Speaking to United Review, Sir Alex stated:
“He is playing with a zest and energy that has taken him to new heights.
“Energy burns in him. But there is also a maturity to his football now that is of tremendous benefit to the team.
“Wayne is ready now to take his career up a further notch and become a leader himself.
“He has already put a marker down on a personal level but now he can assume greater responsibility, and I see his colleagues responding.”
