January 3rd 2010.

A dark day for any United fan.

Jermaine Beckford goal knocked United out in the third round of the FA Cup so tonight offers a small semblance of revenge for us as we travel to Elland Road in the Carling Cup.

An interesting team of youth and players requiring game time will face Simon Grayson’s men hoping to avoid the fate of the last United team that faced Leeds and you have to believe that they have the quality to do so even if it is slightly bizarre with Carrick returning to center back.

A number of young players occupy the bench including Paul Pogba so hopefully the game goes our way so we can see some of them get some playing time.

Starting XI: Amos; Valencia, Fryers, Carrick, Fabio; Giggs, Park, Macheda, Diouf, Owen, Berbatov.

Subs: De Gea, Welbeck, Reece Brown, Michael Keane, Thorpe, Pogba, Cole.

Who would’ve guessed this starting XI? Was Lindegaard injured? Fergie said he would start, now he’s not on the bench. Which of the 4 strikers is playing as a midfielder? And 2 midfielders as defenders? I’m not upset by it, and there’s a lot of experience that should bring the result; but just a bit baffled. This is very attack-minded; Fergie must not have too much regard for Leeds’ defending.
